Stone Mountain Details:
Stone Mountain was chartered in 1839, making us the second oldest city in DeKalb County. We are located next to the South’s premier State Park, Stone Mountain Park, which is home to the largest bas relief sculpture in the world. The mountain is also the largest exposed mass of granite in the world. We have four City Parks as well, making the us one of metropolitan Atlanta’s “greenest” cities.
In 2003 the city completed a plan for development of our downtown core of businesses and residences. The study was funded by a grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission.
The Atlanta Regional Commission and the Department of Community Affairs have completed and approved the ten year plan for the future growth of the city.
The City of Stone Mountain was recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association as a “Certified City of Ethics” at the annual convention on June 27, 2006
